Fire Breaks Out at Centreville Townhouse

The Fire and Rescue Department released a statement with additional details on the incident:

Firefighters encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the front and rear, upwards to the roofs, and laterally to other townhomes upon arrival. The incident commander quickly struck a second alarm, bringing over 60 firefighters to the scene. Firefighters conducted an aggressive exterior fire attack and extinguished the fire in approximately 30 minutes, with minimal damage to adjacent townhomes. Four of the six occupants were home when the fire was started. The occupants were alerted by a sounding smoke alarm coming from the basement. Two adults, four children, and a dog have been displaced. Red Cross is assisting the family. There were no injuries.

The townhouse was a total loss.

According to fire investigators, the fire was started by a juvenile lighting matches in the basement.

A two-alarm fire broke out on Saturday afternoon and devastated a Centreville townhouse.

A 911 call came in around 1:39 p.m. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said Saturday afternoon that the fire was under investigation and that no one was hurt in the incident. NBC4 reports that the $400,000 worth of damages was caused by a child in the house playing with matches. The Red Cross has been notified. 

The three-story house is located on Red River Drive, not far from New Braddock Road.
