Pakistan Independence Day Festival Comes to Bull Run

The festival, which celebrates the 65th anniversary of Pakistan's independence, is free and open to the public.

Thousands of Pakistani families will celebrate the silver jubilee of Pakistan's independence at Bull Run Regional Park this Saturday.

There is no admission or parking fee for the event, which opens at 11 a.m. and runs til 9:30 p.m.

Highlights from the day include a formal program that begins at 2 p.m., a performance by a folk ensemble at 2:30 pm. and remarks by Sherry Rehman, Ambassador of Pakistan, at 4:45 p.m.

Pakistan's Independence Day actually falls on Aug. 14, but because it occurs during Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, the festival was scheduled for a later time. The country gained its independence from the British in 1947.

There are also a number of artists slated to perform at the event. Children can enjoy pony rides, watching the magician and clown, jumping on the moon bounce and carnival games.

A full list of the day's events is available on the festival website
