Strong Performance at Bulldog Bash Earns Owens Athlete of the Week Title

Senior nets one double-double, two double-digit rebound games.

The Centreville Wildcats finished in sixth place in the Bulldog Bash last week, but got strong individual performances across the board, especially from Cam Owens, who dealt with constant double-teams all tournament long.

His efforts earned him Centreville Patch's Athlete of the Week.

After being held to nine points in an opening-round loss to Flint Hill, Owens exploded in the Wildcats' second game of the tournament, going for 23 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win over Liberty District power Langley.

In the team's final game against Potomac School, the defense clamped down on Owens, limiting him to just seven points. Still, he managed to grab 10 rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament team.

"We ask Cam to do a lot. He has to play their best player a lot of nights, and he's also asked to carry the bulk of our offensive scoring on the other end," Centreville Assistant Coach Steve Sonnen said.

Owens and the Wildcats return to action Tuesday in an inter-district game against 10th-ranked Woodson.
