The Fine Arts Come to Fairfax This Weekend

Celebrated artists from around the country to convene at downtown shopping district.

Residents of Fairfax County have likely visited Fairfax Corner, one of the area’s premier shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, on more than one occasion. This Saturday and Sunday, the development’s picturesque, tree-lined avenues will be filled with impressive displays of artwork as part of .

The festival, managed by Paragon Fine Art Events, is one in a series of over a dozen prestigious art shows that will tour the East coast this year. Festival Director Bill Kinney uses the words “fine art” to distinguish the work of the artists he oversees. “This is not a craft show, flea market, or farmers market,” he said.

The Fairfax Fine Arts Festival will feature thousands of original paintings, sculptures, and photographs, in addition to jewelry, ceramics, digital art, and wood- and metalwork.

The 100+ artisans, hailing from all over the United States, will be present at the event and happy to discuss their work with visitors. “It’s exciting to see new art and talk to the people who created the art rather than just viewing it in a gallery,” Kinney said. “This [the Fairfax festival] is like one giant gallery where you can talk to the individual artists and they can tell you about the [creation] process.”

Kinney chose Fairfax Corner as the festival’s venue because of its pleasant, “old time feel” and the demographics of its surrounding area. “This is an educated community, educated in the arts,” he said.
