This Week's Weather: Into 90s by Midweek

First official day of summer ushers in heatwave, 10 degrees above normal, through Sunday.

Mother Nature could break record highs Wednesday, the first day of summer.

After enjoying perfect mid-70s weather over the Father's Day weekend, Northern Virginia will see temperatures zoom into the 90s as early as Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Summer officially begins Wednesday at 7:09 p.m. It's possible the area could see temperatures hit 100 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, according to several forecasts. The record high for Reagan National for June 20 was 99 degrees in 1931, according to WJLA.

Area highs in the 90s will continue through Saturday, according to The Weather Channel. The highs are expected to drop into the 80s by Sunday.

There is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Monday and Friday, with a slight chance of some isolated thunderstorms through the week.

The average high for the area in June is 84 degrees.
