Visions for Vacancies: the Empty Ruby Tuesday's

What would you like to see in this vacant building?

The Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Centreville Square closed its doors in the fall of 2011, and since then, the building has stood empty.

While not a Centreville institution like The Shade Tree or Payne's Restaurant (both also closed now), the 50-table restaurant had been, to all appearances, a popular spot in the area. Many regulars were surprised that it had closed.

The building's neighbors in Centreville Square include Tropical Smoothie Cafe, My Eye Dr, Creative Salon and Spa and a number of ethnic restaurants.

What would be a good tenant for this space? If it was another restaurant, what kind would perform well? Or could another type of business survive here, such as a bookstore, a coffee shop or a clothing store?

Call me crazy (or too attached to 20th century technology!) but I'm going to throw one out there. Could a DVD rental place do well in Centreville? Not a Blockbuster-type place stocked with the latest releases, but a small, independent store that rents foreign, independent and classic films. The kind of stuff you can't really get on Netflix. They could supplement their income through other ways, too, like showing classic movies through a projector on the weekends. That's the kind of thing people might be willing to drive from surrounding areas for, too.

Although this particular place might be a little too big?

One store I would love to see locally, which would be too big for this space, would be a Big Lots! I hate driving all the way to Sterling, but love the store....

A big lots is too big for this building. The DVD rental would work along with a coffee shop and book store. A combination of all of these would work for those of us who miss the "Borders" book store experience. Borders was such a great place to waste time, check out the latest releases and buy bargain books. Please no more dollar stores or ethnic restaurants....unless it was French????

The restaurant named "Souper Salads"! They fantastic, everything is so fresh, soups are made fresh daily as fresh bread. The prices are very fair for our area.

We agree Buffalo Wild Wings would be great as well.

I'd love to see a salad place such as Sweet Tomatoes around here.

Not another coffee place! there are enough of those!! Bring a decent restaurant for there. And I want to request a CVS or Walgrens where Safeway used to be in the Sully Shopping Center off Westfields Blvd.
