Senior Mike Wright won the 200 meter dash and placed second in the 400 meter dash, achieving the state championship qualifying time in both events. Seniors Nathan Marks, Andy Balberde and Tyler Vennergrund each had two goals for the evening. Senior David Weisbrodt had one goal; and freshman Brett Clark had two goals. Written by Karen Fulkerson The Centreville High School softball team extended its record in Concorde District play to 6-0 by beating the Robinson Rams 5-1 on April 26. Robinson scored first plating its only run of the game in the bottom half of the third inning. The Wildcats responded with four runs in the top of the fifth. Senior first baseman Jenna Sarlouis’ doubled to right-center to drive in Amanda Meny who scored Centreville’s first run. By Monique King The Centreville girls defeated district rivals Robinson and Oakton in the tri-meet on April 17 with first place finishes by seniors Rebecca Vinter in the 800 meter run and Isabella Medina in the 3200 meter run. Freshman Sami Belso scored a double victory winning both the 100 meter dash and the high jump. On the boy’s side, Centreville finished in second behind Robinson, but balanced that with quite a few first-place finishes. The Centreville High School varsity boys lacrosse team just concluded a stretch of three away games this past week. The Wildcats emerged victorious over all three of the opponents and are now 8 and 2 for the season. CVHS began their week at the Mt. Vernon Lacrosse Tournament, against an undefeated Madison High School team, defeating them 6-4. Senior midfielder, Andy Balberde, was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, with three goals, while Danny Meador, David Weisbrodt and Tyler Vennergrund each contributed a goal apiece. The Centreville High School girls tennis team had an outstanding match on April 8 against Herndon High School, coming away with a stellar 9-0 win over the Hornets. Senior Jamie Schoshinski had a decisive 10-3 win on court no. 1. Coming in on court no. 2, Carlota Perez-Carpio followed suit with a 10-3 victory over Zena Greer. Junior Jessica Jassal got a strong 10-2 victory over Natalie Doucette. The Centreville High School varsity boys lacrosse team defeated TC Williams 13-4 in their second home game of the season. Centreville had a good showing from several players, with Brett Clark, Kyle Richbourg, Andy Balberde, and Nathan Marks each scoring two goals apiece. Carson McEver, Tyler Vennergrund, Danny Meador and Sean Doyle each scored one goal during the game. The Centreville High School varsity girls’ soccer team heads into the spring break with a 3-0 record, scoring 10 goals and giving up only two in the first weeks of the season. On March 18, they traveled to TC Williams and defeated the team 6-1. Weathering frigid temperatures, wind, and constant rain, the girls came out fast. Team captain Clara Logsdon wasted no time scoring her first of six goals only 28 seconds into the match, as she took a well placed pass from Jenna Green and beat several TC Williams defenders to calmly slot the ball past the diving goalie. The Centreville High School JV boys lacrosse team took on TC Williams on March 19 for a 16-2 victory. Playing into a heavy wind at the opening of the game, the Wildcats got rolling on a goal by Tommy Bowden, with an assist by Matthew Laurence. David Shim followed up with an unassisted goal, followed by another goal by Bowden, assisted by Corey Spriggs. The offensive show gained speed when Tommy Healy drove for a scoring shot and Shim scored again with an assist from defenseman Aidan Barnes. The Centreville High School softball team opened its 2013 season with a 9-0 win over the Seahawks from South Lakes High School on March 15, at Wildcat field. The Lady Wildcats won the game behind a strong pitching performance from sophomore Gretchen Kernbach, who struck out 12 batters and gave up only three hits in seven innings of work. South Lakes came into Friday’s contest with a 2-0 record, but the Wildcat hitters were too much for them to handle. Senior left-fielder Lauren Knoble led the Wildcats with three hits and three RBIs. Following a successful scrimmage against Flint Hill the previous week, the Centreville High School JV boys lacrosse team played their first game of the 2013 season at Yorktown High School on March 14. After a first quarter goal by the Patriots, the shooting went cold as both teams played strong defense. The Wildcat’s defensive line of Kyle Evans, Britton Lee, and Aidan Barnes performed well, knocking down shots and making smooth clears. In an exciting season opener, on March 13, the Centreville High School varsity boys lacrosse team defeated the Yorktown High School Patriots in overtime, 10-9. Senior attack Nathan Marks had six goals for the evening, including both the tieing and game-winning goals. The Centreville High School varsity girls soccer team is lead by six seniors, five of whom have committed to college soccer teams. On March 14, they traveled to Yorktown High and defeated the team 2-1. The girls expected a tough game, and Yorktown gave it to them, with periods of sustained attack on both ends of the field punctuated by long segments of midfield battles. Centreville High School's soccer teams opened regular season play last week. Both teams are looking for good seasons behind strong senior classes augmented by solid juniors and promising younger players. Due to scheduling conflicts, the boys played at W.T. Woodson on March 13 while the girls were idle. Woodson's boys are garnering a lot of attention as one of the early favorites in the region, but the Wildcats showed they should not be overlooked, knocking home the lone goal of the game when Johnny Rios laid a hard shot off his left foot into the lower right corner of the goal in the game's …

An enthusiastic crowd of fans and supporters helped the team celebrate Senior Night; honored students included Centreville students Ian McCormack, Nathan Marks and Matt Miller. Centreville High School wrestling had four wrestlers place in the top four of regionals competition, and one place fifth, allowing them to advance to states. On Feb. 16-17, they traveled to Oscar Smith High School to compete in States. Tyler Love became the third best wrestler in the state for his class this past weekend.
The Centreville High School swim and dive team recently competed at state finals. Paul Baumgartner finished twelfth in the state in diving. Kyle Marshall finished eleventh in the state in the boys 100 backstroke. Rachel Anderson finished sixth in the state in the girls 200 individual medley and also finished ninth in the state in the girls 100 fly. The girls medley relay of Abby McCranie, Rachel Anderson, Kylie Cuomo, and Logan Ross finished eleventh in the state. After two states, two facilities and over two weeks, the Concorde District Championships concluded Wednesday night at Episcopal High School in Alexandria. Among those qualifying for the regional championship at GMU was senior hurdler Sydney Pryor, with her third place finish in the 55 meter hurdles.
