The pursuit ended on the Hickory Grove Court when the motorcycle stopped. Assault: Officers were called to a fight at Havener House Way and Newton Patent Circle on May 21, at 11:30 a.m. Police said that Robert Clifton, 63, of Centreville, attacked the victim with a knife following a near crash while driving. Clifton was charged with assault, and the victim was not injured. Robbery: The victim reported that a man entered the business at 6000 block of Centreville Crest Lane at 9:40 p.m. on May 18, brandished a handgun and demanded money. The suspect fled with cash. A burglary took place on the 13700 block of Smallwood Court, March 19, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. The home owner reported that someone entered the home and stole several electronic items. Entry was possibly made through a rear unlocked door. At 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, officers responded to a residence on the 1200 block of Yates Ford Road for a report of a large party at the home. Police charged homeowner Melanie Smith, 49, of Clifton with three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police: scams target senior citizens    An 86-year-old Springfield area woman was told last week she had won the lottery. But there was a catch; she needed to wire money to the “caller” in order to collect her winnings. She did as she was asked. A 91-year-old Fair Oaks area man was upset and concerned when he got a call from his “grandson” who said he’d been arrested and jailed in Peru a few weeks ago. Doing what any loving grandparent would, the man wired over $13,000 in an attempt to help. An 80-year-old woman wired $4,800 to Bolivia to her “granddaughter” who was there for a wedding and …

Local lore has it that late one night, around the turn of the 20th century, a bus filled with inmates from a mental institution crashed near Clifton. Two escaped into the woods.
