Busy weekend for families in and around Centreville.

Here's our weekly calendar of family-friendly activities in the Centreville area:

Energy to Burn?

Where/WhenThursday, Feb. 17 and Friday, Feb 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 Noon and again from 1p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Why Go? Kids can bounce maniacally to their hearts content in a big room full of inflatables. They’ll be so happy and so worn out.

Pricing: $9 per child per session (one adult free with each child); under 5 years old, just $5

Where/When  (South Riding) Friday Feb.18 at 7:30 p.m. (also Thursday Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)

Why Go? The show will include The Emperor's New Clothes, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella - magical plays are loved by children of all ages. Each show will have a meet and greet with all the characters. Cinderella, Beauty and even the Emperor himself (clothed!)  will sign autographs and take pictures with the kids

Pricing: Tickets are $7

 

 Saturday Morning Cartoon Skate 

Where/When Reston Town Center Ice Rink  Saturday Feb. 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why Go? Scooby-Doo, Tweety and the Cat in the Hat. On Skates. If you are up early enough for cartoons, you are up early enough for Saturday Morning Cartoon Skate at Reston Town Center Ice Rink. Bonus: Girls Scouts will be selling cookies in the pavilion area from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in case your supply is running low.   

Pricing: $9 adults, $7 for children, skate rental is $4. Girl Scout cookies $4 per box, no discount for quantities.

 

Little Airplane Author

Where/When? Udvar-Hazy Center, Boeing Aviation Hangar Saturday  Feb 19 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go? Mark James, the author of Christopher’s Little Airplane (and coloring book) will be available to chat with and ask to sign your book. Very cool to be able to meet and talk to a real author, especially one who writes about airplanes. Catch “To Fly” at the Airbus Imax theatre at 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.

 Pricing: Admission is free. Parking is $15. Book is available for purchase. 

 

Home Made Bird Feeders 

Where/When Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, Sunday Feb. 20 at 9:30 a.m.

Why Go? Fine-feathered friends need to eat too! Bring your empty milk jugs and/or two liter soda bottles to make bird feeders. Learn what they like and how to feed them PLUS learn to identify common birds that visit home bird feeders. (Dress for the weather and bring binoculars.)

Pricing: $5 for Fairfax County Residents/$7 for non-county residents. Registration is required

 

Pottery Painting Marathon

Where/When?   Sunday, Feb. 20 from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

Why Go? It’s a great deal and a fun, creative activity for everyone. Up to 4 people in a family can paint for a $15 flat studio fee, unlimited time.
