Down Goes the Christmas Tree: How to Recycle Your Tree in Centreville

How and when to recycle or dispose of your holiday tree in Fairfax County.

Jennifer Van Der Kleut, editor

Sadly (or maybe not so sadly), the holidays are over. It's time to take down the lights and inflatable reindeer—and get rid of that Christmas tree.

Here's how you can get your Christmas tree picked up curbside with your trash and recycling in the Fairfax area:

Fairfax County Residents

If you receive curbside pickup of trash and recycling, you can recycle your live Christmas tree (under 8 feet tall) on your normal collection date.

The cost is included as part of your regular, paid collection service.

For larger trees, contact your collector for recycling instructions.

Please remove tree stands, ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree toppers before recycling.

Christmas Tree Drop-Off Recycling

Christmas trees may also be recycled during the first two weeks in January at either the I-66 Transfer Station or the I-95 Landfill Complex. There is a small processing fee of $2 per tree.

Please remove tree stands, ornaments, tinsel, lights and tree toppers before recycling.
