News briefs: overseas voting, police headquarters, Dulles metrorail, more.

Fairfax County plans for a new $176 million police and fire headquarters. The new HQ will replace the deteriorating Massey building, the current headquarters. The Washington Post reports that the cost also includes nearly $13 million for a new data center and almost $14.5 million to demolish the Massey building. 

Overseas voting may get a little easier, the Times-Dispatch reports. If approved by the Justice Department, Virginia residents, including members of the military, may fax in a voter application to a Virginia Registrar. Some are saying they are concerned that the new regulation may be unconstitutional, however. 

A Fairfax County police officer who shot and killed an unarmed driver has been fired. While the commonwealth has elected not to press charges, the department said that David Scott Ziants, 28, improperly used deadly force. The shooting occurred in late 2009.

. Ray Lahood has proposed that the funding partners, which includes Fairfax County, scrap the idea of an underground station to save money. Instead, he suggests that they add $10 million to improve an above-ground station. Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) have both said that they LaHood's proposals. 

Tryouts for the show, hosted by former model Tyra Banks, take place next week in Arlington at Pentagon City Mall.

 Former endorsee Charisse Espy Glassman, who is charged with assault and possession of a prohibited weapon in D.C.,. McElveen previously fell short of receiving the endorsement by seven votes. FCDC plans to endorse a new candidate at its July 26th meeting.
