Rising Stars, Starry Skies and Movies under the Stars

What's going on in and around Centreville

Where/When? on Friday, August 19 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why Go? One part fundraiser for the Hiking for Hooters Susan G. Komen 3 Day team, one part great fun. Appetizer buffet, drink specials, raffle with awesome prizes, all for a good cause.

Where/When? on Friday, August 19 starting at 8 p.m.

Why Go? Four local bands, distinctly different, but definitely talented, vie in this 5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Band Battle finale.  Big prizes on the line, plus bigger bragging rights. Come down and enjoy the show.

Pricing? $10 in advance, $13 at the door

 

Where/When? on Saturday, August 20 at 1 p.m.

Why Go? Medical care in the 1700’s and 1800’s was very different than it is today. Visit the Sully Historic Site kitchen for a peek into home remedies and cures.

Pricing? $7 adults; $6 seniors and students; $5 children

 

Where/When? 5875 Trinity Parkway (Centreville) where the gates open at 6 p.m.; the movie begins at  dark.

Why Go? Another great family movie, under the stars, bring a blanket or chairs and a picnic to eat. The kids will enjoy entertainment and activities before the movie and then settle in for “Shrek Forever After”.

Sky Meadows Star Party 

Where/When? Sky Meadows Park on Saturday, August 20 starting at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go? Sky Meadows Park is aptly named. It is the perfect place to kick back and stare at the sky and admire the stars. And with this event, you’ll get to learn more about the stars and planets too with the help of the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy experts.  For all ages.

Pricing? $5 parking fee; event is free

 

Where/When? on Sunday, August 21 from  11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go? Purrfect time to pick out a new pet, one who really needs a home. The Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) will have puppies, kittens, cats and dogs available for adoption at Caring Hands Animal Hospital

Pricing? Free to look, adoption fees vary.
