Sully Station II Gets Ready For Chili Cookoff and Bingo

Nineteenth annual event is set for March 5.

Winter is almost over and Sully Station II residents can enjoy a night out with a homemade chili cook-off competition and bingo night next Saturday.

The chili cook-off and bingo night, which is sponsored by the social committee, is set for March 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the cafeteria. Fairfax County police officers from the Sully District will be the chili judges and the cook off winner will receive an ice-chiller serving tray, said Eileen Smith, the event organizer.

The event is limited to Sully Station II residents and has become a noteworthy annual tradition for the community, Smith said.  The association held the first bingo in 1992.

“This has been going on for 19 years,” Smith said. “It’s almost the end of winter and it’s time for all of us to get out and socialize.”

Although doors open around 6 p.m., chili contestants are asked to bring in their pots of chili 15 minutes early to get them set up and checked in, Smith said. The will be 12 bingo games, with individual prizes for each game.

Smith notes that attendance varies from year-to-year, from 100 to 250 participants.
