Weekend planner for the Centreville area.

Where/When?  on Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

Why Go? This week marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. Learn more about the events at Fort Sumter that led to the first shots fired and the beginning of the long war. This lecture series is presented by Bull Run Civil War Round Table.

Where/When? on Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go?  There is nothing like a warm campfire and a starry night.  A naturalist will be on hand to talk about the night sky and point out the spring constellations.

Pricing? $5 for Fairfax County residents, $7 for non-county residents. Registration is required.

 

Where/When?  from Thursday, April 14 through Sunday, April 17.

Why Go? Clay Café Studios in Chantilly is supporting the Empty Bowls Fundraiser (to help raise money to keep food pantries and other sources of food, well stocked for our less fortunate community members) by having a paint one/donate one promotion all weekend. Mention Empty Bowls and you can paint one bowl for yourself, paint one (free) bowl for Empty Bowls.

The Empty Bowls event will be on Friday, April 29 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at St John Neumann (Reston). There is a minimum donation of $20 for the meal which includes a handcrafted bowl that you get to keep to remind us that there are those in our community who have empty bowls, plus soup, bread, a beverage and dessert. Tickets are limited. Pre-event tickets can be purchased by contacting emptybowls@givingcircleofhope.org or by calling 703-608-2231.

Where/When? Paradise Springs Winery (Clifton) on Friday, April 15 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go? Tax Day, Schmax Day… forget about the IRS and relax at Paradise Springs Winery’s first Friday evening happy hour of the season. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music of  Jim Heald, acoustic guitarist and contemporary folk singer.

Pricing? Free to attend, plus $1 off wine by the glass.

 

Where/When?   on Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

Why Go? All ages are welcome to take part in this interpretive walk down Blue Bell Trail. A naturalist will lead this walk to admire the Virginia bluebells and other native wildflowers.
