What's For Dinner On A Snowy Night?

Here are a few ideas to get some soup simmering in your kitchen.

Jane Lemmons, editor
It's snowing outside, so what can you throw together for dinner to make you warm on the inside?

For lots of us, the answer is a simmering pot of soup. Here are three reasons why there's nothing like soup on cold winter night:

  • First of all, you've probably got all the ingredients you need. Soups and stews were made for improvisation. And they're easy to prepare and cook, even if you're a novice in the kitchen.
  • Second, they make the whole house smell great while they're cooking. Now that's cozy.
  • And finally, they're a whole meal in a bowl. Add some bread or crackers or salad — whatever you like and have on hand.
So pull out that favorite soup recipe your mom gave you, or you clipped out of magazine, or you saw online. If you don't have one, we've got you covered. Here are some ideas to get you started so you can savor some soup in the snow tonight:

Old-Fashioned Chicken and Dumplings

Quick Beef and Barley Soup

Potato Soup

Vegetarian Chili
