Thunderstorms continue to plague Northern Virginia Friday, with continued flooding in some areas. But the weekend forecast shows that Saturday and Sunday are sure to be sunny. So keep those outdoor plans for Father’s Day!

Doug Kammerer, meteorologist for NBC Washington, tweeted “Rain and Storms now in #DC metro. Heads up. The rain will come down HARD and FAST.”

Across much of the area in Northern Virginia Friday, residents were driving very slowly through hard rain, while their cars were pelted with the wet stuff.

The National Weather Service predicts that the torrential downpour will slow down around 4 p.m. -- just in time for the commute home. Showers and thunderstorms are predicted for the evening hours after 7 p.m. and into the night. The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang reports chances of potential flooding -- stay safe. Most of the area is still under a Flash Flood Watch until 10 p.m.

Kammerer tweeted earlier Friday morning, “Hey look another flash flood watch for the day! This is getting old. Be safe everyone. Could be rough today. Much better tomorrow.”

The weekend is sure to be a different story, with a high (for Arlington) of about 78 degrees Saturday and 83 degrees Sunday, according to The National Weather Service, and only 10 percent chance of rain for both Saturday and Sunday.

The Weather Gang forecasts Saturday to be clear, sunny and much less humid than Friday with breezes blowing 5 to 15 mph.

The sunshine from Saturday will continue on to Sunday, so enjoy the outdoors on Father’s Day. The Weather Gang is predicting mostly clear skies with some scattered clouds in the afternoon.

Stay safe Friday night and enjoy the sunshine this weekend. And don’t forget the sunscreen.
