Sneak Peek: Centreville Presbyterian Presents “Weaver”

Church theatre group will perform the original, faith-based musical Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

Since its inception in 2007, the Community Theatre has performed a number of well-known productions, including , Footloose, and Children of Eden. This fall, the intergenerational theatre group breaks into new creative territory with its entirely original musical, Weaver

Weaver is the brainchild of Don Halterman, CPC’s Director of Worship, and Zoë Dillard, the Theatre Director at . Though the two collaborated with one another during all aspects of the creative process, Dillard wrote most of the script, while Halterman was largely responsible for Weaver’s original score. senior and also contributed to the production’s choreography and score.

“Our goal was to write an authentic, Christian-based drama that would have more of an appeal to older kids [and young adults through age 30] and deal with raw, real issues in a faith-based way,” Halterman said, acknowledging that most church musicals target younger children.

Set in the fictional Northern Virginia town of Centerfield, the musical artfully establishes God as the weaver of all relationships and reminds us of His presence in every aspect of our lives. Weaver follows several young adults through their individual struggles with family, love, addiction, uncertain futures, and religious faith. They must eventually learn to let go of their doubts and “follow the threads” God has woven for each of them.

Though Weaver is a production rooted in the Christian faith, it boasts contemporary themes, well-developed characters, and lively music that religious and non-religious audience members alike will relate to and enjoy.
