200 Vie for Free Meals for a Year at Chick-fil-A Grand Opening

The grand opening is Thursday, but people were allowed to begin standing in line Wednesday at 6 a.m. to be one of the first customers. The first 100 patrons win free Chick-fil-A for one year.

About 200 people gathered outside of the new Chick-fil-A on Fair Knoll Drive in Fairfax at 6 a.m. Wednesday—a full 24 hours before the store's grand opening.

Why? Two words: Free. Food.

That's right.  The company's First 100 program offers the first 100 customers of a new location a free Chick-fil-A meal per week for an entire year.

Patrons arrived at the crack of dawn with tents, chairs and other provisions to get them through the day-long wait, Chick-fil-A staff said.

Because more than 200 people were in line 24 hours in advance of the opening, a drawing was held to decide what 100 people would get to stay in line for the opening and receive the meals.
To help pass the time until Thursday's grand opening, the 100 winning patrons will have access to the Chick-fil-A bathrooms and food as well as security and live music.
