Dominion Wants to Expand Compton Road Electrical Substation

The power company is seeking approval from Fairfax County to allow a 3,757 square foot expansion and construction of a 90-foot tall structure at the NOVEC substation.

Dominion Virginia Power is asking Fairfax County for permission to expand at the NOVEC electrical substation on Compton Road.

If the county approves the bid, Dominion would expand the substation by 3,757 square feet and construct a 90-foot-tall "backbone" structure with equipment, Supervisor Michael Frey told the Board of County Supervisors on Feb. 12.

In order to construct, Dominion has to obtain a special exception application and a public facilities application.

Frey said that county staff have recommended approval in their report. He said he is not aware of any objections from the community to the application.

Dominion has to wait until April 18 to vet the project to at a planning commission hearing. Since the delay is unavoidable, Frey moved that the Board authorize a date after the planning commission's decision to hear the final motion. The Board voted unanimously in favor of the motion.
