New Bank Coming to Stone Road

The Board of County Supervisors has approved BB&T's application to build a new bank branch in the Village Center Shopping Center.

BB&T bank has obtained approval to move down the road from its current location in the Sully Station shopping plaza and construct a new building.

On Jan. 29, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors gave the go-ahead for BB&T to build a new 3,000-square foot-branch at the Village Center shopping plaza on Stone Road. The one-story building will have a walk-in lobby, three drive-thru tellers, an ATM and the bank’s 25-foot iconic glass tower at the entrance.

To obtain official approval from the Board of County Supervisors, BB&T had to ask for a special exception amendment and waivers. The project had also obtained the approval of the Western Fairfax County Citizens Association Land Use Committee in November. The committee makes recommendations on an advisory basis.

The bank will occupy the southeastern corner of the property. In past years, developers have found it difficult to come up with a use for the site, since it is small and adjacent to an underground gas pipeline. Previous plans for gas stations and a fast-food restaurant were scuttled due to the limitations of the site.
