American Red Cross Needs Blood Donations
Local blood drives are coming up, as the blood supply is at a 15-year low.
The American Red Cross is facing its lowest blood supply in 15 years, according to USA Today.
Red Cross officials said that despite blood donations usually being slow in the summer due to vacations and schools being closed, this summer is especially low. Several factors may have detered donations in July including severe storms, extreme heat and July 4th was in the middle of the week, resulting in extended vacations.
USA Today reported that some elective surgeries may have to be canceled if the blood supply doesn't increase.
