Five Things to Know in Centreville This Week

Here's what's going on in our community.

1) You can support  and do some holiday shopping for the bookworm in your family at the same time. Shop at the Fair Lakes Barnes and Noble on Saturday, Nov. 26th, and enter the ID #1512028 at checkout to have a portion of the money from your purchase credited to CVHS. Even coffee purchases at the cafe count. Or, visit www.bn.com/bookfairs from Nov. 26th-30th and enter the code online. Cyber Monday and other discounts will still apply. 2) Students from are participating in an annual service project, called Panther Pickup, to benefit Our Neighbor's Child. ONC provides Christmas gifts to families that cannot afford them. Students will visit many neighborhoods in the Centreville area to collect new and unwrapped gifts. Families in communities that received fliers about the project can leave a gift at their front door for pickup between 8-12 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3rd. People may also drop presents off at the school between 9 and 11 a.m. 

3) Those who want to buy a Christmas tree over Thanksgiving weekend can do so at from Thursday-Sunday. Proceeds from the Christmas tree sales will toward a turf field for CVHS. The price for a five to six foot tall tree is $55, six to seven feet cost $60, and trees that are seven to nine feet tall cost $65. Hours are 5:30-8:30 Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.

5) Congratulations to 's yearbook staff, who won a "Best of Show" award at the Journalism Education Association (JEA)-National Scholastic Press Association fall convention over the weekend. The Guardian was recognized in the category for yearbooks over 325 pages long.
