Bites Lead Animal Control Reports in April

Every week, the Fairfax County Police department releases a list of Animal Control incidents at the end of its weekly incident report. Patch is compiling these responses at the end of each month.

Animal Wounding

Between April 25 and 26, near Frying Pan Farm Park in the 2600 block of Centreville Road. The horses were cut by a sharp object on their hind quarters, leaving about eight-inch gashes. Police say the horses were hurt between 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 and 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 26. The Fairfax County Police are asking for the public's assistance in finding out who harmed the horses.

Animal Bite

At 2 p.m. on April 4, a postal carrier was making a delivery on the 5800 block of North Kings Highway when a dog approached and bit the carrier. The victim was treated for minor injuries and the dog, which had a current license and vaccination, was routinely quarantined for 10 days.

Animal Bite

At 12:30 p.m. on April 8, Animal Control officers responded to the 5900 block of One Penny Drive for a reported dog bite. The dog, a yellow Labrador retriever, was allegedly running loose and attacked a neighbor’s dog. The victim was attempting to separate the two dogs and was bitten. The yellow Lab was routinely quarantined for 10 days.

At 1:30 p.m. on April 9, officers responded to a report of a loose Rottweiler that allegedly attacked an 82-year-old Fairfax woman on the 10700 block of Almond Street. The victim was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The dog was turned over to the shelter.

At 6:30 p.m. on April 10, a victim reported that a dog bit him in the buttocks while retrieving a basketball at the 2100 block of Wolftrap Court. Animal Control officers took the dog and routinely quarantined it at the shelter.

Animal Bite

At 3:45 p.m. on April 13, a dog that had escaped a backyard on the 2900 block of Stuart Drive bit a mail carrier. The mail carrier received minor injuries and the Husky/Labrador mix was routinely quarantined.

Dangerous Dog

At 3:45 p.m. on April 13, a victim was walking his Husky on a leash when an English bulldog came running around a corner and attacked the Husky on the 6100 block of Hatches Court. The dog’s owner was charged for not having a dog license and for having a dangerous dog.

Animal Bite/Running at Large

At 5:50 p.m. on April 14, a woman was driving when she saw several dogs running in the street near 11800 block of Waples Mill Road. She attempted to identify the dogs by their collars when one of them bit her. She received minor injuries.

Animal Bite/Running at Large

At 12:20 p.m. on April 18, was making deliveries near the 5800 block of North Kings Highway when a Labrador retriever ran at him and bit him in the stomach. The dog's owner was charged with not having a dog license. The Labrador was routinely quarantined.
