-----------

Today at Centreville High School, during our special lunch period for students taking the World History II SOL test, a large number of our students participated in a food fight. The food fight was quickly brought under control by staff members. As the students were cleaning the cafeteria, members of our staff were assaulted by three students. The students were arrested and charged by Fairfax County Police.

As we continue to investigate the incident and identify students involved in the food fight, we will be assigning disciplinary consequences for those that instigated and participated in the food fight. Discipline will range from suspensions to community service depending on the involvement of the students.

This created a disruption of the school day and created less than optimal testing conditions. The safety and welfare of all of our students is our major concern. The actions today of a small portion of our student body created an unsafe condition for students and staff which also did not contribute to a positive testing environment.
