Early Morning Fire Doused by Sprinkler

Fire and Rescue Department investigating the cause of the fire.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an apartment fire in a Centreville garden apartment early Tuesday morning. Fortunately, a sprinkler in the attic had already taken care of much of the work for them.

When firefighters arrived at the apartment on Post Corners Trail around 1:30 a.m., they saw light smoke on the top floor of the three-story apartment. Water was coming from an the attic area, due to a sprinkler that activated, fire officials said in a press release. The sprinkler had already extinguished much of the fire.

The damage was minor; however, one occupant was displaced. Residents declined Red Cross assistance and there were no injuries. Firefighters are still investigating the fire's cause.
