Fairfax Police Chopper Searching for Suspect Discovers Something Else Dangerous

A helicopter crew member said he spotted it,"out the corner of my eye."

A Fairfax Police helicopter searching for a hit-and-run suspect on the run happened upon a fully-involved house fire on Cedar Key Landing in Centreville on Saturday.

Watch FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) video of their discovery posted with this article.

The crew of Fairfax One, a Fairfax County Police helicopter spotted the blaze and reported it to ground units at 7:50 p.m. One of the crew members can be heard saying in the video that he'd just happened to spot smoke from the blaze, "out the corner of my eye."
Sixty firefighters responded to the home at 14361 Cedar Key Landing where they managed to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes and contain it primarily to the second floor and roof. An adjacent home did sustain minor fire damage, according to Fairfax County firefighter reports.

No injuries were reported and no one was home when the fire broke out. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants. Fire investigators later determined an electrical power strip in an upstairs bedroom caused the fire and subsequent $150,000 in damages.
