Fire Blotter: Kitchen Fire Displaces Family

Accidental fire started from food left on the stovetop.

Two adults and two children had to leave their home on William Carr Lane temporarily following an accidental kitchen fire on Sunday, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said.Β

The fire started around 6:45 p.m.; the cause was food left on the kitchen stove. It lasted for about 20 minutes, causing heavy smoke and $40,000 worth of damage to the two-story, single-family home. The fire was mostly confined to the kitchen area, but did cause some damage to the floor space above.

The two adults and two children were displaced, but have declined Red Cross assistance, the department said.Β
