Ice Hockey Team Fundraising for World Police and Fire Games
Sixteen local law enforcement officers will compete in NYC this year.
Last month Officer Jason Hebert of the Fairfax County Police Department's K-9 division attended a (CAC) meeting to talk about the unit's work. He also spoke briefly about the police ice hockey team, which is in need of donations in order to attend the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) this year will take place in New York.
Since law enforcement has limited fundraising opportunities due to the nature of the job, CAC asked if we could pass along some information on to readers. Here's a bit of background on the WPFG and what the ice hockey team needs.
Athletes who are sworn officers compete in 65 different events, which include both traditional sporting events and some tailored toward police/firefighters (like rifle shooting).

The Games are held every two years. In 2015 they will arrive in Fairfax, along with about 20,000 athletes and 10,000 spectators.
Hebert's ice hockey team is comprised of 16 Fairfax County police officers who have to pay all expenses, which can get a bit expensive when you tally in entry fees, hotel accommodations, uniforms and travel, especially when you factor in that the high cost of everything in NYC. Hebert says that the total for about 20 volunteers wind up at about $10,000. Anyone who wants to make a donation can send it to:

Donations will support both the ice hockey team as well as the Police Explorer Post. Ten percent of everything raised goes back to the Post, which gives high school aged children the opportunity to learn about law enforcement.
We're attaching a YouTube video about the games, which was brought to our attention on the 2015 WPFG Twitter feed.
