Man Dies, Newborn in Serious Condition in Sunday Crash

Baby delivered early following wreck, according to Fairfax County Police.

A Manassas man has died and a newborn is in critical condition after a crash early Sunday morning on the Fairfax County Parkway, according to Fairfax County Police.

Abraham Aragon, 44, of Soldiers Ridge Circle, Manassas was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.

The fatal wreck occurred on the parkway just north of Braddock Road. A preliminary investigation indicates that Aragon was driving his 1993 Mazda MX3 Coupe northbound in the southbound lanes of the road, according to police.

The Mazda allegedly struck a 2002 Toyota Avalon head-on. The driver of the Avalon and his wife, both of Camp Hill, Penn., were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, however, was pregnant. The baby was delivered early and is now in serious condition, according to a release.

The crash is under investigation by Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives. Detectives are investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to police. All people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
