Thief Cuts Into Drywall Behind ATM, Steals Cash

A look at some of the recent crimes in the Sully District.

The following information was provided by the Fairfax County Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Grand Larceny: Fairfax County Crime Solvers is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person or people responsible for breaking into an automated teller machine (ATM) and stealing cash. Police and fire personnel were called to 5622 Ox Road in the Fairfax Station area for a suspicious event around 4:28 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. An investigation determined a 61-year-old man entered the location to use the ATM and noticed the strong odor of something burning. Officers determined someone cut a hole in the drywall behind the ATM along with several wires and forced entry into the machine. The suspect(s) stole an undisclosed amount of cash from inside. There are no videos or photos available at this time.

Assault/Destruction of Property: Police arrested a man for assaulting a 31-year-old woman and damaging her vehicle just before midnight on Thursday, October 27 in the 5000 block of Village Fountain Place. Jose L. Reano, 41, of 5061 Village Fountain Place in Centreville, was charged with assault and destruction of property. The victim declined medical attention.
