Wayward Cow Charges Animal Control Officers

The cow was on the loose for two days.

A pregnant Scottish Highland cow made a break for it from her farm on Winfield Road in Fairfax Thursday, and despite several sightings, managed to elude animal control officers until Saturday night.

After animal control received a report of the orange and brown cow running loose by the Union Mill Colonnade, the officers found her by nearby woods. The cow charged officers—who had been warned she might be aggressive—and fled through neighborhood yards.

The officers eventually tranquilized the cow with a dart gun, but she was not injured. A veterinarian was on hand to assist as officers apprehended the cow.
