Fairfax County Animal Shelter Reopens for Cat Adoptions

Adoptions had come to a halt for three weeks in the middle of kitten season due to a deadly virus.

Early this month, staff at the Fairfax County . Adoptions came to a halt right in the middle of kitten season. Now, the shelter has reopened.Β 

To celebrate, the shelter will host ExtravaCATza! 2011, a summer adoption event beginning Tuesday. The first 100 cats adopted from the shelter during throughout the rest of the month and in August will receive a free spay or neuter by the shelter’s veterinarian. Adoption fee will also be waived for cats seven years or older.

Shelters around the area are typically filled to capacity around this time of year due to the large number of kittens born. As a result, it becomes much harder to adopt out older cats.Β
