Gov. McDonnell Calls for Moment of Silence Friday to Remember Connecticut Victims

Virginia governor joins Connecticut governor in plans to remember victims in brief ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

One week after the tragic shootings in Connecticut at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Gov. Bob McDonnell on Thursday is requesting a statewide moment of silence Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. to remember the victims.

McDonnell is joining Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy in calling for a moment of silence.

McDonnell is inviting all members of the public to join in the statewide moment of silence, and to join him at the Capitol Square Bell Tower in Richmond, where the bell will ring 26 times during that moment of silence. Twenty-six students and teachers were killed in the shootings that took place Dec. 14.

The governor will speak briefly, prior to the moment of silence.

The bell tower tolls each day to call the General Assembly into session. It was built in 1825 for the Virginia Public Guard. The tower now holds offices for the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

Virginia Governor Bob Mcdonnell hasn't a single regret or even a scintilla of remorse this evening for his role in this preventable tragedy. Indeed, to his mind, its better for these children to die violently than for him to miss out on his annual $5,000 check from the NRA. And better for this entire scenario to repeat itself next year than for him to miss out on $5,000 more. Bob Mcdonnell of Virginia has made it possible for anyone, regardless of their criminal records or mental capacity to attain as much weaponry as they need for whatever they may need it - Arik Katzenberg

About the only time these pos killers are stopped is when a person with a weapon shows up to stop the killing. Force of arms is what brought Newtown to a end. Do you want trained teachers who can respond in the first minute or two cause they are on the sence or would you rather wait until the police show up in several minutes?

Guns at Columbine (armed guard), Virginia Tech (own police force) and Ft. Hood didn't stop any mass shootings. The idea of a force of arms brought the Newtown horror to an end when the gunman took his own life. Enough is enough. The answer to ending gun violence is not additional guns.
