Heat Advisory, Code Orange Air Quality Alert in Effect Today

Heat index will reach between 100 and 105 degrees today, NWS says.

The National Weather Service has issued a code orange air quality alert for Tuesday, June 12th. A heat advisory is also in effect today. Heat index values may reach up to 105 degrees. 

The code orange air quality alert means air pollution concentrations in the area could be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, people with asthma, heart disease and other lung diseases, and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be lessened by avoiding exercising outdoors or other strenuous outdoor activity.

The heat advisory is in effect on Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. Temperatures today may reach of a high of 95 degrees. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

The NWS suggests staying in an air-conditioned room, out of the sun and to drink plenty of fluids. The NWS also suggests checking in on neighbors and relatives. If you suspect someone has been affected by heat stroke, call 911.
