Jason Flanary Wins Republican Nod in 37th District Primary

Bill Cooper takes the nomination for Fairfax County Sheriff.

Centreville businessman  won the Republican primary election against in the 37th state senate district on Tuesday night. 

Flanary, a political newcomer and former legislative aide to Del. Tim Hugo, won 54 percent of the vote—3,133 votes throughout the district, which runs through parts of Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax Station and Annandale. 

Overall, voter turnout was quite low. Just 4.9 percent of votors cast their ballots, although election officials expected a low turnout due to a late election date caused by the recent redistricting process.

While Flanary, 32, was the clear favorite in the overall election, Hunt performed quite well in several precincts in the Centreville area. The former school board member won the majority of votes at London Towne West, London Towne East, Centreville and Virginia Run. 

that his top priorities in the campaign will be transportation and jobs. He will run against incumbent state senator David Marsden in the general election in November.

In other election news, retired Sheriff's Office lieutenant against Wes Kammerer, a Centreville resident. Cooper won just over 76 percent of the vote and will run against incumbent Sheriff Stan Barry in the fall. The Sheriff's race was the only election being held on Tuesday for Centreville residents not in the 37th district.
