Random Man Mows Lincoln Memorial Lawn, Don't Try it at Manassas Battlefield

Random man tried to mow grass at Lincoln Memorial, asked to leave by U.S. Park Police.

While the federal shutdown has U.S. National Park Service grounds maintenance teams chilling at home instead of trimming, it probably isn't a good idea to take the government's landscaping into your own hands.

That's what happened on Wednesday when a random man decided to unload his lawnmower and cut the grass at the Lincoln Memorial while carrying the South Carolina state flag.
But  don't be inclined to mow any of the 5,000 acres of Manassas National Battlefield Park that span Prince William and Fairfax counties-you will very likely be asked to leave.  Like other national parks, Manassas National Battlefield is closed to visitors because of the federal shutdown.

"We asked him to leave, he complied," U.S. Park Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Brooks said on Thursday.

He wasn't arrested and no tickets were issued to the mower, who police didn't identify, Brooks said.

While U.S. Rep. Mark Sandford (R-S.C.) praised the Mount Pleasant, S.C. man, calling him "an American," in a New York Daily News report, copycats need not try.
