Tornado Watch for Fairfax County Cancelled

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday.

Update: 8:045 p.m. Tornado watch cancelled for the entire metro area. 

Update, 6:10 p.m. The tornado warning has expired for Fairfax County. There is still some activity near the Reston area. The watch remains in effect until 9 p.m. 

Update, 5:45 p.m. Tornado warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service says that at 5:38 p.m. the doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted near Dumfries, moving north at 30 mph. Affected locations include the Lorton and Springfield areas of Fairfax County. 

The entire county is under tornado watch until 6 p.m.

A tornado watch is in effect throughout Fairfax County and the surrounding area until 11 p.m. Thursday night. 

A tornado watch means that the conditions are in place for a tornado. Other affected locations include Prince William, Arlington, Spotslyvania and counties throughout Virginia.
