The Centreville Wildcats held off a second-half comeback by the Mount Vernon Majors Friday night, topping them in a final score of 30-22.
The Wildcats dominated early, scoring 20 points with three touchdowns in the first half, twice on the ground with rushes by running backs David Newell and A.J. Turner and once in the air, with a pass to tight end David Liddle.
But the Majors refused to go down easy. With only two seconds to go in the half, they scored a touchdown with a pass to tight end Mathias Sivataasi.

The Wildcats came out strong for the second half, taking back the momentum when running back Xavier Nickens-Yzer returned the opening kick for a touchdown putting the Wildcats up 27-7.
Less than two minutes later, the Majors turned the tables again, scoring a TD on a 95-yard pass play.

The two teams went head to head for most of the second half with tough defense of both sides of the ball. The Wildcats finally extended their lead to 30-14 with a field goal early in the fourth quarter.
With 5:40 to go in the game, the Majors capped a scoring drive with a TD and a two point conversion bringing themselves within striking distance at 30-22.
But the Wildcats would not let this one go. With two minutes remaining, facing first and goal for Mount Vernon after a questionable pass interference call, the Wildcats shut the door. They forced Mount Vernon into a fourth and goal situation, and stopped them on the 15-yard line with 45 seconds to go and then let the clock expire for the 30-22 victory.
