Centreville Sports Review

A look at last week's sports scores.

Girls Tennis: CVHS Girls Tennis lost to Oakton on Thursday, April 14, by a score of 2-7. The Lady Wildcats played well but the Lady Cougars have a strong, deep team. Sarah Nguyen gave the Wildcats their only singles win, winning her match 10-8. Cheryl Mazmanian and Sarah Nguyen won decisively in their Doubles match, 8-3.

Boys Lacrosse: Despite a 2 – 0 early lead, the Centreville varsity boys lacrosse team fell to the Chantilly Chargers 11 – 4. Junior Zack Sikora scored three of Centreville’s four goals during the game, with sophomore Andy Balberde scoring the fourth.

In another recent district game, the Wildcats lost a very physical game to the Robinson Rams, 9 - 1. Centreville’s only goal was scored by Zack Sikora, who later had to leave the game due to a heavy blow to the head. Sophomore Antonio Choi, who normally plays Defense for the Wildcats, and freshman Kent Roy, who was brought up from the JV team, shared time in goal for the Wildcats due to Goalie Pat Prosser’s season-ending injury a week ago.

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team played their third game in 4 days and suffered a tough, close loss to the McLean Highlanders, 11 - 10.  The Wildcats took an early lead in the game, but saw the score see-saw back and forth throughout the game. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, McLean led the Wildcats 10 - 7. CVHS rallied to tie the score until the last minute of the game when the Highlanders pulled ahead by one point.

Props to freshman Goalie Kent Roy, who played the entire game, aided nicely by Defender stand-outs junior Kevin Brawner and sophomore Jake Hyde. The leading scorer for the Wildcats was Zack Sikora with three goals; attackmen Sam Marks and Austin Erickson each had two goals; while midfielders Andy Balberde had two goals and David Kerrigan produced one goal. The Wildcats' leading player with assists was senior Sam Marks.
