CVHS Softball Update

Exciting match-ups between Centreville and Westfield.

Varsity Softball: As usual, the rival matchup between and yielded an exciting game.

On Tuesday, April 17, Centreville kept Westfield from scoring until the sixth inning, but were unable to hold onto their lead throughout the entire game. The first inning the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead with Kara Love scoring from second base on a solid single by Lexi Murdock.

Centreville came out swinging in the second inning with Morgan Yi hitting a single; Gisela DeConti with her keen eye advanced to first on a walk. Gretchen Kernbach's aggressive bat put base runners in position to score.

Lexi Hunter was put out at first but had a RBI bringing in Yi for a 2-0 score. The third inning had the Wildcat's Macy Luck hitting and legging out a double.

Murdock singled and moved Luck to third and Yi beat out a throw to first on an error by the pitcher allowing Luck to score. Deconti walked loading the bases with a score of 3 - 0, but no runs resulted.

Westfield had a runner on in the top of the fourth, but Yi caught a pop up in right field and rifled the ball to 3rd base where Murdock tagged the runner to complete the double play and ended the inning. A

lthough the fourth inning yielded no runs for either team, Murdock started the fifth off with a bang with a clean double. Yi legged out a triple with a RBI for the Wildcats. During the sixth inning, the wheels fell off the wagon a bit, and Westfield managed to score. The Wildcats still held the lead heading into the seventh with a 4-3 score.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were able to load the bases and bring their number four batter, Carrie Otroba, to the plate to deliver a double which flipped the score Westfield's way for the first time in the game. In the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats managed to load the bases, but were unable to close the deal, leaving the final score a heartbreaking 7-4 loss for Centreville.

On Friday, the Varsity Cats lost to Oakton on the road. The Lady Wildcats will face the Robinson Rams at home on Friday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m.

JV:  The Centreville Wildcats JV softball team lost to on Tuesday 4-3 in a nail-biting game.

Wildcats led 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn't hold the lead as Westfield scored two runs to win thLe game. Erin Seabrook, Sarah Hudson, Rachel Lee, and Brianna Carazana all had hits for the Wildcats. Lauren Jones pitched a tremendous game. The team then won their Friday night game against opponent Oakton High School, 6-5.

The offense came alive in the first inning and continued to dominate through the game. When an injury removed starting pitcher Lauren Jones from the game, the Wildcats still fought as Sarah Hudson took over the sixth and seventh innings pitching a great game and clinching the win. Sarah Hudson went 2 for 3 in the game with a pair of RBI's and Leah DeVera went 3 for 3.
