CVHS Student Wins Citizenship Award
Bobby Kelly, a senior at Centreville High School, won the Wachovia Citizenship Award.
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) and Wachovia Bank have awarded Bobby Kelly, a senior at , the annual Wachovia Citizenship Award.
The VHSL/Wachovia Citizenship Award program recognizes six exemplary students, one male and one female each from A, AA and AAA schools through the commonwealth. The $1,000 scholarships will assist these six students in furthering their education at an institution of higher learning, whether they are attendinguniversities, colleges and trade schools.
For the purpose of this award, citizenship is defined as:

♦ contributions to the family, school and community, or to the arts, the environment, education, health or human services through volunteer efforts;
♦ specific behavior or actions which put others first, including exceptional examples of sportsmanship in athletic or academic activities or exemplary acts in coming to the assistance of those in need; and/or
♦ overcoming the odds, moving beyond significant hardships or family or societal difficulties to enhance the quality of life for others.
A committee of high school principals and Wachovia representatives judged the applicants on participation in at least one VHSL activity, contributions to family, school and community, and promoting good sportsmanship. Entrants also had to submit an essay.

Kelly participated in CVHS’s cross country, track and swim teams. He also has been involved in several school organizations and activities, and volunteers both in his church and in community-service organizations. This fall he will study engineering at the University of Virginia.
