Deer Park Elementary Students to Stand Up to Bullying

No Name Calling Week starts Tuesday.

No Name Calling Week, an effort to raise awareness and reduce bullying behaviors, will launch at Deer Park Elementary Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m.

Paul Hadfield, a licensed clinical professional counselor, will give a presentation that includes magic, acrobatics, and humor to develop rapport and engage students while addressing bullying from a mental health standpoint.

He will emphasize how bystanders can be empowered to reduce bullying behaviors. Students will also learn to recognize feelings, employ empathy, talk to an adult, and use school resources.

During the week, students will also observe various dress days, including dressing in red, white, and blue to be a H.E.R.O. (help, encourage, respect others), and in pink to stand up to bullying.

School counselors Donna Ford and Courtney Cottrell will lead activities throughout the week.
