Photo Fun: Westfield Marching Band Packs for Pasadena's Rose Parade

A Centreville company donated the use of a big rig to get the band's equipment across the country to California in time for the Rose Parade.

Carmack Moving and Storage in Centreville donated the use of a 53-foot tractor trailer to transport the Westfield High School Marching band's instruments and gear across the country in time for the group to march in the Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year's Day.

While the students will board planes and fly across the country on Friday, they, along with staff, parents and boosters loaded the big rig on the morning of Dec. 20, a full week in advance so the truck and its crew can make it to California to unload well before the parade, said Jim Carpenter the Westfield High School Rose Parade Committee co-chairman.

The 273-member band is the first public school in Fairfax County history to participate in the Rose Parade.

The donated truck and crew are worth about $35,000-the cost of renting a truck that size and hiring drivers for the cross-country journey.
