Pjammin' Day Raises Awareness, Funds to Fight Childhood Cancer

Students wore pajamas to school and donated money in honor of a Liberty Middle School student, Andrew McCaffrey, who has a rare bone cancer.

, Liberty Middle and  schools participated in Pjammin' Day, a special event held in honor of a seventh grader, Andrew McCaffrey, to raise awareness of childhood cancer. The event, held on Feb. 3, was organized by Liberty Middle School student, Shannon Lyons. Students donated a dollar in exchange for wearing pajamas to school for the day. All money raised will be donated towards American Childhood Cancer Organization's (ACCO) molecular-based childhood cancer research, as well as the reprinting of ACCO's childhood cancer books.

Andrew was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma two years ago after doctors found a tumor in his right knee. He has endured months of chemotherapy and a total of 10 surgeries to both knees and lungs. A year after his diagnosis, a routine scan found two spots in Andrew's lungs which were also osteosarcoma. Andrew continues to fight this rare cancer that affects children between 10 and 25 years old.

This is not the first time the community has banded together to show support for Andrew.
