Girls Tennis—On April 25—in the first of three consecutive days of tennis matches—CVHS fought jet lag, unusual heat and humidity and a very tough opponent, but were victorious in their match over Chantilly, 5-4.
The schools were tied 3-3 after the singles matches but the doubles teams pulled out the victory. In singles Jackie Lin won in the #1 position in a long, hard battle 11-9; Cheryl Mazmanian won at #2, 10-4; and Astrid Unson pulled out a victory at #6, 11-10 by winning a tie-breaker. In doubles, CVHS’s #2 of Mazmanian/Sarah Nguyen won 10-4 and the #3 doubles team of Shauna Kistner and Astrid Unson won 10-5. Mazmanian & Unson won both their singles and doubles matches for the day!
On April 26, the Lady Wildcats Tennis team lost a tough match to Robinson, 7-2.

On April 27, despite incoming severe weather, the Lady Wildcats bounced back from the previous day’s defeat, soundly beating cross-town rival Westfields, 8-1.

In doubles Lin/Park won 6-4, Mazmanian/Nguyen won 6-3 and Kistner Unson won 6-2.
With a final record of 6-4, the girls tennis team has now qualified to play at the Regional tournament the week of May 16th.
Softball—The varsity team finally got their first home field start on Monday, April 25th against non-district WT Woodson. The Wildcats scored early and lead Woodson for four innings before a home run by Woodson. Runners during the fifth inning put a gap in the game from which the Wildcats could not recover. The final score was 5-4 Woodson.
The very next night, April 26th, the Lady Wildcats took on the Rams at Robinson High School. It was not until the top of the fourth inning that the tempo of the game accelerated, with singles by Kara Love and Kara Donovan.
Lexi Murdock moved the runners around by beating out a bunt. Macy Luck also bunted on to score Love. A sac fly by Holmes scored Donovan and a double by Lauren Knoble brought in two more runs. With a score of 4-2, the Wildcats looked positioned to capture their first victory.
Unfortunately, several close calls and a two out rally by Robinson in the bottom of the fourth allowed the Rams to score four runs. Morgan Yi came in to change the pace in the fifth inning and shut the Rams down, relieving starting pitcher, Courtney Burke. The Wildcats managed to get one of the runs back for a final score of 6-5 in favor of Robinson, but seemed to be plagued by one-run losses – this being the fourth of the season.
The JV softball squad also played just their second game of the season on April 26th against Robinson at Home. Sarah Hudson recorded six strike outs in a solid pitching performance. Gillian Campbell, Jenna Sarlouis, and Victoria Richards all had notable showings at the plate. The JV Squad topped the Rams with a score of 12 to 1.
The Thursday, April 28th makeup matchups for both softball teams against Herndon were rained out again and have been rescheduled for May 9th, but the Wildcats faced Westfield on April 29. Neither the Varsity nor the JV squad was able to pull out a win (Varsity score 7-1, JV score 12-2), but both teams meet again on today, May 2.
Ice Hockey—The Wildcats ice hockey team improved to 3-1-0 in spring league play at Reston, with a 6-5 come-from-behind victory on April 17th over the Reston Raiders. Down by a score of 4-1, the Wildcats rallied and scored five goals to pull ahead and stay ahead for the win. Tommy Reynolds scored five goals for the Wildcats, Dennis Minor had a goal and two assists. Nick Brown also had an assist.
The Wildcats' next game is May 15th at 7:15 against Robinson High School.
Boys Lacrosse—The varsity boys lacrosse defeated Jeb Stuart this past week, 14 - 2. The top goal scorer for the Wildcats was Sophomore Attack, Nathan Marks, with 4 goals. Shane Kehl and Zach Sikora each had three goals for the evening and Greg Eubanks, Austin Erickson, Tyler Vennergrund and Andy Balberde each had one goal.
Tyler Vennergrund and Zach Sikora were assist leaders for the game with three each, while Nathan Marks had two assists, and David Kerrigan, Sam Marks and Andy Balberde each had one assist.
Of note, Senior Robert Ibay had great offensive play during the last part of the game and had two outstanding shots on goal that were both stopped by the Jeb Stuart goalie. Defensemen Kevin Brawner, Nick Ziegler and Steven Pugh were stand-outs during the game, as was Goalie Antonio Choi.
In their last official game of the season, the Wildcats suffered a 11-3 loss to crosstown rival Westfield High School. Junior Zach Sikora had two Wildcat goals for the evening, and Sophomore Andy Balberde had the remaining goal. Sam Marks and Tyler Vennergrund had one assist each during the game. Seniors Zack Fenstermacher and Steven Pugh played especially tough defense. Next up, the Wildcats will face off against Oakton High School.
Girls Lacrosse—The varsity girls lacrosse team began their spring break tournament in Orlando with two losses against Cherry Hill East (N.J.) and WT Woodson (Va.). However, the sun finally brought out the Wildcats’ full potential as they held their lead against Triton (N.Y.).
Offensive players who shined in the tournament were Maggie Dulkerian (13 goals), Carly Sane (10 goals) and Jessica Kim (seven goals). Goalie Taylor Marrow had eight saves during the game against Woodson; however, an injury kept her out of the goal for the remainder of the tournament leaving a definite hole in Centreville’s defense.
The Lady Wildcats returned to regular season play with a victory over Stuart of 27-1. The ease of the victory allowed 18 members of the varsity team to earn at least one goal against the Raiders!
Centreville then rounded out their week by taking on Westfield. A tight Wildcat defense held back an incredibly strong Bulldog offense, while the Wildcats showed outstanding improvement at setting up their offensive plays, ending the half with a close contest, just two goals down.
Scoring for the Wildcats were Hayley Anderson (four goals), Maggie Dulkerian (three goals), Erin Sanders and Carly Sane (each two goals). Substitute goalies Moksha Sharma and Shannon O’Donnell put up a valiant effort, but by the middle of the second half the loss of lead goalie Marrow began to take its toll, ending the game with a 19-11 loss for Centreville.
The Lady Wildcats go into their final regular season game next week against Herndon with a record of 5-6.
The JV Boys Lacrosse team played their last four games of the season over the past three weeks.
They lost 9-7 to Robinson in mid-April. Five Wildcat players scored against Robinson - Chase Heiner, Danny Meador, Kevin Hagan, Andy Reilly and Elliot Cunningham. Goalie Kyle Evans had five saves in goal.
Next, the JV Wildcats played the Chantilly Chargers, which resulted in a tie, 9-9. During that contest they again had five Wildcats score against their opponent – Heiner (one goal), Meador (three goals), Reilly (three goals), Cunningham (one goal) and Brennan Tait (one goal). Goalie Evans had eight saves.
On Friday April 15 the JV Wildcats hosted McLean. They emerged victorious with a score of 9-5. Heiner, Meador, Hagan, Reilly, Kyle Roarty, Colin Reynolds and David Weisbrock all scored, and Evans had 11 saves.
The last game of the season, on Friday, April 29, brought a tough loss against Westfield, 12-7. Four Wildcats scored – Meador, Heiner, Reilly and Cunningham – and Evans had 10 saves.
The team ended the year with a 7-3-1 regular season record.

Wildcat Classic Golf Tournament – General Dynamics and the Wildcat Athletic Boosters are proud to present the seventh annual Wildcat Classic Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 7th at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton. The format of the tournament will be a four-player scramble and will be flighted based on team handicaps to recognize both low gross and net. The tournament will feature numerous challenges & prizes, including both $10,000 hole-in-one and $2500 putting contests.
