Highlights from football, cross-country, field hockey, volleyball and golf.

Here's a look at recent sports scores:

Football

Senior Chase Walter scored touchdowns on an interception return (30 yards), a 66-yards fumble recovery and a reception (37 yards) as the Wildcat varsity football team improved to 5-0 (1-0) with a 49-3 victory over . Senior Mitch Ferrick completed 7 or 10 passes for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Wildcats next play at home against on Thursday, Oct. 6, 7:30 p.m.

Also, congratulations to all three CVHS football teams! Freshmen, JV and varsity teams are all undefeated at this point in the season.  

Cross-Country

Cooler temperatures brought in hotter times for the team at Saturday’s Glory Days Invitational in . Wildcat varsity runners Chan Young Lee and Rebecca Vintner (both juniors), placed first in their respective three mile races against tough competition from all area schools. They were closely followed by other Wildcat finishers for the boys, senior Chris Jones (16th), and junior Kip Talman (18th), and in the girls race junior Joanna Ahn (10th).

The freshman race brought second place finishes for both Bobby Dunn and Jackie O’Shea; Dunn and O’Shea are now ranked among the Fastest 50 Freshmen in Virginia. Other top freshman finishers included: Presley Day (15th), McKinsey Smith (16th) and Christinia Makhloug (20th). Top finishers among the JV squad included: junior Sean Nguyen (17th) and sophomore Maya Munoz (8th).

The Runners of the Week were freshman Natalie King and Bobby Dunn. This week the team heads to their .

Field Hockey

The team lost 1-0 to on Monday. Its against . 

Volleyball

The varsity Lady Wildcats beat previously undefeated  on Sept. 27, winning three of five matches. The varsity team and JV teams lost to Herndon on Monday, but the freshmen won 2-1. The teams .

Golf

The varsity team finished fourth in the Concorde District Tournament held on Sept. 26 and 27, at Twin Lakes Golf Course.
