Centreville High Weekly Sports Review

Wildcat wrestlers travel to North Carolina for tournament; basketball team competes in Bulldog Bash.

Wrestling: After a strong finish at the Appalachian Duals on Dec. 22, the wrestling team prepared for another dual tournament, this time in the midst of the Winter Break at Knightdale High School near Charlotte, North Carolina. The second day of the Appalachian Duals saw Centreville Head Coach Belyea and his Wildcats winning their bracket by dismantling Fluvanna County High, Jefferson High, and Loudoun County High.

Freshman Tyler Love continued his dominance and won all 6 of his bouts. Love now boasts an impressive 15-3 record. Senior Captain ended up with a record of 5-1 on the weekend.  Also going 5-1 were senior David Chenevey and junior Joey Steinbach. Junior Will Fulton broke out of his winless start to the season by going 4-2, including two pins of his weekend opponents. Also having productive tournaments were freshmen Chung Do Kim and Michael Vu, and junior Jason Park, all going .500 or better.

With the Appalachian Duals in the rear view, the team traveled to North Carolina on Thursday, Dec. 28th to mix it up with teams from NC, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida. The Knightdale Duals wrestling tournament is a grinding 32 team tournament, featuring pool wrestling with those results setting up bracket competition on the second day of the event.  Wrestling began Friday and continued through Saturday morning, the 31st, before the team rang in 2012 and headed back to NOVA on New Year’s Day.  Results of this tournament will be featured here next week.
