CVHS Runners Brave Winter Winds to Compete in Polar Bear Challenge

High schoolers hosted runners from Oakton, Stonewall Jackson, and other schools this weekend

On Saturday, Dec. 11th, under cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 30s, Centreville Track and Field hosted its first-ever Polar Bear Challenge track meet on the school's newly resurfaced fast track outside. Visiting teams in attendance included Oakton High School; Mountain View and North Stafford high schools, both of Stafford; and Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas.

In this inaugural event, congratulations go out to the CVHS girls track team. They took first place overall for the meet. Individual wins included:

Tamara Wilson – 3rd place, 55m dash

Jessica Mejia – 2nd place, 300m dash and 3rd place, 500m dash

Jessica Kim – 2nd place, 1000m run

Esther Yoo – 3rd place, 1000m run

Gabrielle Woods – 3rd place, 1600m run

Genesis Echevarria – 1st place, 55m hurdles

Flo Duong – 3rd place, 55m hurdles and 2ndplace, Triple Jump

Sydney Pryor – 1st place, triple jump.  

The CVHS boys track team took a respectable third place overall for the meet.  Individual wins included:  

Texas Williams – 3rd place, 300m dash

Vincenzo Spina – 3rd place, 1600m run

Nick Asencio – 1st place, 55m hurdles

David Choi – 2nd place, 55m hurdles and 3rd place, triple jump

Randy Chaing – 3rd place, 55m hurdles.
