Early Scoring Enough for Westfield to Beat T.C. Williams

Bulldogs quarterback Pisarcik throws for three touchdowns.

Kyle Simmons is only two games into his tenure as head coach with the Bulldogs, but he is making it clear that average is not tolerated.

The Bulldogs scored two quick touchdowns in their first two possesions to help control T.C. Williams 28-13 on Saturday.

"We played pretty decent in the first quarter, but I got disappointed at the end of the first quarter and into the second quarter we got a little sloppy," Simmons said. "We need to work on that and get a little better. "

Westfield scored two minutes into the game when senior quarterback Matthew Pisarcik found senior wide receiver Quentin Basil for a 42-yard touchdown on a wide open seam route. Minutes later, with 7:18 left in the first quarter, Pisarcik guided senior receiver Artie Pickett with a perfect 25-yard touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.

"They're the No. 3 team in the region," said T.C. Williams head coach Dennis Randolph. "You can't get down 14-0."

T.C. Williams drove deep into Bulldogs territory midway through the second quarter, but Westfield maintained its 14-0 lead into halftime after  junior defensive back Sean Simpson stepped in front of a pass inside the 10-yard line to intercept a Titans late first-half rally attempt.

The Bulldogs received the ball in the second-half and ran on every down to propel senior tailback Kendell Anderson to a 1-yard touchdown on a right toss sweep to give Westfield a 21-0 lead. Anderson wore the bulk of the carries for the Bulldogs running for 140 hard yards.

"When it's not there, when there's not a seam where he can use his speed, he will lower his shoulder and try to run over you," Simpson said of Anderson's running style.

The Titans later tried to respond and did so when senior tailback Za'Quan Summers scored on a 12-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to bring T.C. WIlliams within two touchdowns, trailing 21-7.

Matthew Pisarcik found his favorite receiver Quentin Basil again on a quick 15-yard strike to give Westfield a commanding three touchdown lead with six minutes remaining in the game. It was Pisarcik's third touchdown of the game.

A bright spot for T.C. Williams was the pass and catch combination of junior quarterback Alec Grosser and junior receiver Landon Moss. Grosser connected with Moss successfully on two fourth-down instances, one which resulted in a 6-yard touchdown on fade pattern deep in the end zone late in the game to shorten the final scoring gap to 28-13.

Westfield plays next at home against Lake Braddock (1-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. T.C. Williams hosts Robinson (0-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
