Video: New Life Christian Church Opens the nZone

New Life Christian Church held the grand opening of the nZone, a former Budweiser facility converted to a church and sports facility.

isn't a conventional congregation. "No perfect people are allowed at New Life. Come regardless of your hurts, habits and hang-ups. We’re a place full of messed up people," the church's website proclaims.

So perhaps it's fitting that the congregation's new house of worship isn't exactly conventional, either.

The church recently moved from its former home at to a g in Chantilly. They've named it the "nZone," which doubles as a sports facility and gym during the week and a church on Sundays. On Jan. 14th, the congregation held the grand opening, complete with free food, games, moonbounces and autographs by current and former Redskins Evan Royster, Darrell Green and Art Monk. Organizers estimate that about 5,000 people attended.

"Our entire objective in this building is to be a place where people encounter God—people encounter God in a way that they walk away saying, 'there's something different about that place.' And they don't even perhaps know what it is," said Creed Branson, executive minister of New Life Christian Church.

While the free food, games, athletic fields and Redskins players were a big draw, among the crowds were people who were looking for a new church, like Lisa Fritsche, of Clifton. She heard about New Life through a friend's post on Facebook, and decided to attend the grand opening to find out more about the church.

"I wanted a fun environment for my two boys," she said, while standing in line with her husband to get autographs. "Something maybe not so traditional."

Catherine Lee, 30, of Chantilly, was also attracted to New Life's non-traditional approach when she joined the congregation.

"It's not quite as stuffy or conservative as some other churches," she said. "Some of them, you go in and feel judged by everybody, but this church has a more relaxed feeling to it."
